In July 2002, we opened L. L. Odette Place, a supportive housing residence. This site is home to 13 adult males, who were homeless and struggled with mental illness. The newly renovated facility has 13 large single units with a modern kitchen/ lounge, accessible bathrooms, a rooftop deck and laundry facilities. Residents receive counselling, connection to health care, referrals to other social services and community support. They also have access to other services offered in the Corner Drop-in.
Supportive housing provides safe, stable housing with affordable rent. It also provides additional support to participants including:
help finding a doctor or psychiatrist
escort to community activities
education about planning and preparing healthy meals
assistance finding a job
With a place to call home and supports, the men in L.L. Odette Place are enjoying a new sense of stability and dignity in their lives.
